As of 30 October 2026 (13 Kartik 2083). Dates are taken from the Ministry of Home Affairs holiday notice for 2083 in the Nepal Gazette (Khanda 75, No. 67, 18 Falgun 2082) and the Nepal Rastra Bank bank holiday list for 2083, both re-downloaded today. AD weekdays were checked with a calendar script. The NEPSE website blocked our request for its holiday calendar (HTTP 401), so stock market closures are our reading, not an official list.
Dashain is over, and the next five months still hold sixteen nationwide weekday holidays, two more that land on Saturdays, and a handful of regional or community-only days. This guide lists every remaining entry in the public holidays 2083 Nepal notice, from 14 Kartik (31 October 2026) to the end of Chaitra (13 April 2027), with Bikram Sambat and AD dates side by side, plus the bank rules, the Saturday rule and the winter office hours that start on 16 Kartik.
For the Dashain dates that already passed, see our Dashain 2083 post.

Where the list comes from
The Government of Nepal fixes holidays once a year. For 2083 the Ministry of Home Affairs (गृह मन्त्रालय) published its decision in the Nepal Gazette on 18 Falgun 2082 (2 March 2026). The notice covers all government offices and public bodies from 1 Baishakh to the end of Chaitra 2083, grouped into Saturdays, nationwide festivals, festivals for particular religions, cultures or places, women-only days, school-only days, Kathmandu Valley jatras, national “day” holidays and birth anniversaries.
Nepal Rastra Bank then issues a bank holiday list that copies the government dates and adds bank rules. The two documents agree on every remaining date, and we cross-checked the English summary published by the law firm Pradhan & Associates in March 2026.

| Eid ul-Fitr | Not fixed | Announced on the day | To be confirmed | Everyone, nationwide |

A note on International Women’s Day: the gazette lists it under section 6.1, the nationwide “day” holidays for everyone, and the NRB list marks it as a bank holiday. The Pradhan & Associates summary calls it women-only; we follow the gazette.
Two women-only holidays exist in 2083, Haritalika Teej (29 Bhadra) and Jitiya (18 Asoj), but both have passed. No women-only holiday remains this year.
The 21 Terai districts that take Holi on Monday 8 Chaitra run from Jhapa to Kanchanpur and include Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, Siraha, Udayapur, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, both Nawalparasi districts, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke, Bardiya and Kailali. Everywhere else, including Kathmandu and Pokhara, Holi is Sunday 7 Chaitra.
Remaining Saturdays of 2083
Section 1 of the gazette lists every Saturday as a holiday. From 31 October 2026 to the end of the year there are 24 of them (our calculation). In BS terms: Kartik 14, 21, 28; Mangsir 5, 12, 19, 26; Poush 4, 11, 18, 25; Magh 2, 9, 16, 23; Falgun 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; Chaitra 6, 13, 20, 27. The last Saturday of the year is 27 Chaitra (10 April 2027).
The Saturday rule: no substitute day
Nepal does not move a holiday to Sunday or Monday when it lands on Saturday. The 2083 notice simply prints “16 Magh, Saturday” for Martyrs’ Day and “22 Falgun, Saturday” for Maha Shivaratri with no replacement, and Constitution Day (3 Asoj) was absorbed by a Saturday earlier this year the same way. Our reading: a holiday that coincides with the weekly holiday is lost. That is why the real number of extra weekday closures between now and Chaitra is 16, not 18.
Banks: what closes and what keeps running
The NRB list for 2083 follows the government dates and adds these rules in its notes:
- Every Saturday is a bank holiday. Every Friday is a half day at the counter.
- Counter hours: 10:00 to 16:00 in summer (1 Baishakh to 15 Kartik, and 16 Magh to end of Chaitra); 10:00 to 15:00 in winter (16 Kartik to 15 Magh, that is 2 November 2026 to 29 January 2027); Fridays 10:00 to 12:30 all year.
- On holidays marked with an asterisk (Christmas, the Lhosars, Maghe Sankranti, Maha Shivaratri, the national “day” holidays, Eid and others), counters are closed but cash payments, cheque clearing (ECC) and RTGS run with minimum staff. The same applies on any surprise holiday the government declares.
- Group-only holidays (Falgunanda Jayanti, Disability Day, Dura Mhaipru Nakuma, Mohammad Jayanti, Guru Nanak Jayanti, Saruwa Pawani) are taken by the employee concerned by self-declaration; the bank itself stays open.
Mobile banking, QR payments, ATMs and wallets work through the holidays; the practical effect is on counter work such as cheque deposits, remittance and loan paperwork.
NEPSE and schools
Stock trading follows the public holiday calendar, so our reading is that NEPSE is closed on every nationwide holiday above, with Holi taken on the Kathmandu date (21 March). NEPSE blocked our request for its official calendar, so confirm on nepalstock.com before placing orders around those dates.
Government and community schools follow the nationwide holidays plus Basanta Panchami on 28 Magh (11 February 2027), which the gazette gives to educational institutions only. Private schools set their own calendars, and many run longer Tihar breaks than the official five days; check your school’s notice.
Regional and community-only holidays explained
The gazette separates holidays into five types of coverage. The type tells you whether your office is closed:
- Nationwide festival or day holidays (sections 2.1, 6.1 and 7.1): everyone, everywhere, from Tihar to Eid ul-Fitr as marked in the table.
- Religion, culture or place-specific holidays (section 2.2): Dura Mhaipru Nakuma for the Dura community; Saruwa Pawani only in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Siraha and Saptari, on the day it falls.
- Kathmandu Valley jatra holidays (section 5): Ghode Jatra on 23 Chaitra and Bhoto Jatra on the day it is held. Pokhara, Biratnagar and the rest of the country work normally.
- Group-specific holidays (sections 6.2 and 7.2): Disability Day, Falgunanda Jayanti, Mohammad Jayanti and Guru Nanak Jayanti. The employee declares the holiday; the office stays open.
- Educational institutions only (section 4): Basanta Panchami.
Each provincial government may also declare up to six extra public holidays a year for its province, and they apply to federal offices inside the province too. Extra holidays for the three Kathmandu Valley districts need a federal cabinet decision. Nepali missions abroad manage up to 18 holidays of their own, adjusted to the host country.
Essential services that must stay open
Clause 10 of the notice says that on most single-day holidays (Christmas, the Lhosars, Maghe Sankranti, Maha Shivaratri, Eid, the Valley jatras and the national “day” holidays) the responsible ministry must arrange for essential counters to keep working: citizenship, passport, consular, customs, driving licence and vehicle registration, company registration, foreign employment, national ID, land revenue, exams, study-abroad NOCs, police clearance, and banking and insurance.
Our reading: that means a duty roster for urgent cases, not a fully open office. Tihar, Chhath, Dashain and Holi are not on the clause 10 list, so expect a real shutdown during the festival blocks. Hospitals, telecom, police, immigration and fire services must run every day regardless.
Winter office hours from 16 Kartik
Section 11 of the gazette sets government office hours for the year:
| Period | Days | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Baishakh to 15 Kartik, and 16 Magh to end of Chaitra | Sunday to Thursday | 10:00 to 17:00 |
| 16 Kartik to 15 Magh (2 November 2026 to 29 January 2027) | Sunday to Thursday | 10:00 to 16:00 |
| All year | Friday | 10:00 to 15:00 |
| Lunch break, all year | Every working day | 13:30 to 14:00 |
“Half day” means until 13:30 in summer hours and 13:00 in winter hours. Bank counters close one hour before government offices on every working day.
How to plan paperwork around the remaining holidays
- Count the real working days. Between Tihar and Chhath there is only one: Friday 13 November 2026. Saturday 14 November is the weekly holiday and Sunday 15 November is Chhath. Offices reopen on 16 November.
- Book counter visits for passports, licences, NID or land work on a Sunday to Thursday, because Friday closes at 15:00 for offices and 12:30 for bank counters.
- In December, Thursday 24 (Dhanya Purnima), Friday 25 (Christmas) and Saturday 26 give a three-day break, followed by Wednesday 30 December (Tamu Lhosar).
- In January, Maghe Sankranti on Friday 15 January 2027 joins Saturday 16 January for a two-day break; Prithvi Jayanti is the Monday before, on 11 January.
- In March, Monday 8 (Women’s Day) and Tuesday 9 (Gyalpo Lhosar) close offices back to back, after Maha Shivaratri on Saturday 6 March.
- For Eid, Bhoto Jatra, Saruwa Pawani or Guru Nanak Jayanti, wait for the government or bank notice; the list only says “the day of the festival”.
Cricket fans have one more date set to watch: the Nepal Premier League runs through late November and December, and several match days fall on the Saturdays listed above. Our NPL 2026 schedule guide has the fixtures.

Counters are closed from Sunday 8 to Thursday 12 November 2026, then again on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November. Friday 13 November is a half day (10:00 to 12:30). Digital channels, ATMs and QR payments continue.
Is Holi 2083 on the same day across Nepal?
No. Fagu Purnima is Sunday 7 Chaitra (21 March 2027) in 56 hill and mountain districts, including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Kaski, and Monday 8 Chaitra (22 March 2027) in the 21 Terai districts named in the gazette.
When do winter office hours start and end?
Winter hours run from 16 Kartik to 15 Magh 2083, that is Monday 2 November 2026 to Friday 29 January 2027. Government offices work 10:00 to 16:00 (Friday 10:00 to 15:00), bank counters 10:00 to 15:00 (Friday 10:00 to 12:30).
Conclusion
The second half of the public holidays 2083 Nepal calendar is front-loaded: Tihar and Chhath close most of the country for six days in November, then the holidays spread out as single days through Poush, Magh, Falgun and Chaitra. Sixteen nationwide weekday holidays remain, plus two on Saturdays that are not replaced, plus the floating Eid ul-Fitr. Use the BS and AD table for leave planning, remember the Terai and hill split for Holi, switch to winter hours from 2 November, and check whether your province has used its six-day allowance before assuming an office is open.
