The Dashain tika sait 2083 is 10:26 AM on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, which is 4 Kartik 2083. Sait (साइत) means the auspicious time. It is fixed each year by the Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Bikas Samiti, the committee that decides the official calendar.

That one line is what most people come for. The rest of this page gives the full Dashain dates in both calendars, the direction to face, the days government offices and banks are closed, and what still works while they are shut.

Dashain tika sait 2083: the exact time and how to use it

The committee gave the time for those who want to receive tika at the auspicious moment. On the morning of Vijaya Dashami the order is:

  1. 8:49 AM: devi visarjan (देवी विसर्जन), the ritual farewell to the goddess worshipped since Ghatasthapana.
  2. 10:26 AM: tika from elders, as the goddess’s prasad.

The committee’s chair, Associate Professor Dr Purushottam Bhattarai, told RSS that tika can be received throughout the day on Vijaya Dashami. The sait is for those who wish to follow it, not a deadline.

Two more details from the same announcement:

  • Direction. The person receiving tika should face west.
  • How long tika continues. In much of the country people receive tika and blessings from elders until Kojagrat Purnima. In some places it is done only on Vijaya Dashami itself.

The time is given for Nepal. The announcement does not list separate times for Nepalis living abroad.

Two things in this table surprise people every year. Ashtami spans two calendar days this time, so Navami falls on Tuesday, not Monday. And the fifteen-day festival closes on the evening of 8 Kartik with Mahalaxmi puja, while the committee lists Kojagrat Purnima itself on 9 Kartik.

Public holidays for Dashain 2083

The government’s holiday notice was published in the Nepal Gazette on 18 Falgun 2082. For Dashain it lists:

HolidayDatesDays
Ghatasthapana25 Asoj, Sunday 11 October1
Dashain holiday, Phulpati to Dwadashi31 Asoj to 6 Kartik, Saturday 17 to Friday 23 October7
Weekly holiday7 Kartik, Saturday 24 October1

Counted together, government offices are closed for eight days in a row, from Saturday 17 October to Saturday 24 October. They reopen on Sunday, 25 October.

Kojagrat Purnima is not in the gazette’s nationwide list of festival holidays for 2083.

Bank holidays: what NRB’s list says

Nepal Rastra Bank publishes its own bank holiday list each year. For 2083 it gives the same Dashain dates as the gazette: 17 October to 23 October, Phulpati to Dwadashi. With Saturday the 24th, bank counters are also shut for eight days and open again on Sunday, 25 October.

The same NRB list already shows the next break. The Tihar holiday runs from 8 to 12 November 2026, and Chhath is on 15 November.

What stays open while offices are closed

Counters close. Digital channels do not.

  • Mobile banking, wallets and QR payments keep working through the holiday.
  • ATMs work, but machines in busy areas can run short of cash over an eight-day closure. Withdraw before Friday the 16th.
  • connectIPS and online government payments remain available.
  • Support is thinner. If a transfer fails, keep the transaction ID and expect a slower reply than usual.

One deadline sits inside the holiday. The income tax return for 2082/83 is due on Asoj masanta, 17 October, which is Phulpati. Our note on the income tax return deadline explains why Friday the 16th is the practical last day for anyone paying at a bank.

Sending dakshina digitally: the limits to know

Many families now send dakshina (दक्षिणा, the money given with tika) by wallet or QR, especially to relatives in another city. NRB’s payment directive caps how much can move in a day.

ChannelDaily limit
Mobile banking app, including QRRs 3,00,000
Bank account to walletRs 2,00,000
Wallet to another walletRs 50,000

Your own bank may set lower limits than these ceilings. The full table, with monthly caps and the payments that do not count against the limit, is in our guide to mobile banking transaction limits.

Three habits prevent most festival-week losses:

  1. Check the name before you confirm. A wrong number sends the money to a stranger, and nobody is at the bank to reverse it until the 25th.
  2. Do not open “Dashain gift” links. No wallet or bank gives a bonus through a link sent on a messaging app. Our OTP, PIN and password safety guide covers the common tricks.
  3. Turn on payment alerts. If you run a shop, the QR voice notification confirms each payment without checking the phone.

Travelling home for Dashain

The Department of Transport Management has published a hotline for festival-season transport facilitation: 9851349261, the number of its assistant information officer. The notice is dated 26 Asoj 2083.

If you are topping up data for the journey, the current packs are in our NTC Dashain and Tihar offer guide.
