Before a customer in Pokhara visits a new clinic, or a buyer in Kathmandu orders from a small brand, they usually check online first. They look for a Maps listing, a Facebook Page, reviews, and a phone number that works. If they find nothing, or find three different names and an old number, many simply choose someone else.
A professional online presence does not need a large budget. It needs the right pieces, set up consistently, and kept up to date. This guide covers what to build, in what order, and how to keep it trustworthy.
The five building blocks
| Block | What it does | Cost to start | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile | Shows you on Google Search and Maps for local searches | Google says adding or claiming is free | First, if you meet customers in person |
| Facebook Page | Where many Nepali customers look for updates and message you | Your time; ads are optional | First or second |
| WhatsApp Business | Business profile, catalogue and automatic greeting and away messages | App download from official stores | Second |
| Website | A place you control for full details, prices and articles | Domain and hosting fees from your provider | Third, when ready |
| Reviews and content | Proof that real people use you, and that you know your field | Your time | Ongoing |
You do not need all five on day one. A tailor in Bagar, Pokhara could start with a Google Business Profile and a Facebook Page this week, and add a website next year.
Step 1: Decide your name and message first
Before opening any account, write down:
- Your exact business name, as it appears on your signboard and registration. Use it identically everywhere.
- One sentence on who you help and how, such as “Same-day mobile repair in Chipledhunga, Pokhara.”
- Your contact details: one main phone number, an email, and your address or service area.
- Your logo and one brand colour.
Consistency matters to Google too. Its Business Profile guidelines ask you to represent the business as it is consistently known in the real world, on signage, stationery and other branding. If your shop sign says one thing and your Facebook Page says another, customers and Google both get confused.
Step 2: Set up Google Business Profile
If customers visit you, or you visit them, this is usually the highest-value step. Google’s process:
- Go to business.google.com/add and click Add your business to Google, or claim an existing listing from Google Maps with Claim this business and Manage now.
- Enter your name, category, address or service area, phone and website.
- Complete the verification method Google offers. Google says these methods are chosen automatically based on your business type, region and other factors.
- Add photos, hours and a description of up to 750 characters.
Online-only businesses are not eligible, according to Google’s policy. If you sell only through Instagram and courier, skip this and focus on social media and a website.

Step 3: Create a Facebook Page
Facebook’s Help Center gives these steps on desktop:
- Log in and click Pages on the left.
- Click Create Page, choose Public Page, then Next, then Get Started.
- Enter your Page name and category, add a short bio, and click Create Page.
- Add contact info, location and hours, then click Next.
- Add a profile photo (your logo) and a cover photo, and set the action button.
- Connect WhatsApp or click Skip, then finish the remaining steps.
Make it look professional:
- Use the same name as your Google profile and signboard.
- Pin a post that explains what you offer, your prices or price range, and how to order.
- Reply to messages the same day where you can.
- Post useful content, not only offers. A pharmacy can explain how to store medicines in summer heat; a driving school can explain the trial day.
Step 4: Add WhatsApp Business
Many Nepali customers prefer to message rather than call. WhatsApp’s product page says the Business app lets you create a business profile with your information in one place, showcase products and services, greet people when they start a conversation, and respond even when you are away.
Set up:
- A business profile with hours, address and a short description
- A greeting message in Nepali and English
- An away message for nights and festival closures
- A short catalogue of your main products or services
If you are unsure whether you need the normal app, the Business app or the API, read which WhatsApp option your Nepali business actually needs.
Step 5: Add a website when you are ready
Social media accounts belong to the platforms. A website is the one place you fully control. It also lets you publish detailed pages that people find through Google Search.
A simple small-business website needs:
- A home page saying what you do, where, and how to contact you
- A services or products page with clear prices or price ranges
- An about page with real photos and the owner’s name
- A contact page with map, phone and email
- A few helpful articles answering common customer questions
Google’s SEO starter guide says changes can take anywhere from hours to several months to be reflected in search, and suggests waiting a few weeks before judging results. It also suggests checking whether your site is indexed by searching site: followed by your domain.
Once the site is live, add it to Google Search Console. Google says you must prove ownership to add a property, and a Domain property is verified by DNS record. Google’s Business Profile Help also notes that verifying your website in Search Console can sometimes make Business Profile verification instant.

Step 6: Earn honest reviews
Reviews are often the first thing people read. Google’s policy prohibits offering discounts, free items or other incentives in exchange for reviews, or for changing or removing them.
What works instead:
- Ask every customer politely after a good service
- Print Google’s review QR code at the counter
- Reply to every review, positive or negative, calmly and briefly
- Fix the problem a bad review describes, then reply explaining what changed
Step 7: Secure your accounts
A hacked Page can disappear overnight, along with years of followers. Protect every account.
Facebook two-factor authentication, per Facebook’s Help Center:
- Click your profile picture, then Settings and privacy, then Settings.
- Open Accounts Center, then Password and security.
- Select Two-factor authentication, choose the account, and pick a security method.
Facebook notes some users may see “Meta Account settings” instead of Accounts Center.
Other rules:
- Turn on 2-Step Verification for the Google Account that owns your Business Profile.
- Give staff their own access roles. Never share the owner’s password.
- Keep at least two trusted admins, so one lost phone does not lock you out.
A weekly routine that keeps you credible
- Monday: check hours and contact details on Google and Facebook
- Wednesday: post one useful tip or answer a common question
- Friday: reply to all reviews and messages from the week
- Monthly: add new photos, remove ex-staff access, and update prices
Common mistakes and fixes
- Different names on different platforms: pick one exact name and update every profile.
- A number nobody answers: use a number that is staffed during business hours.
- Pages full of only sale posts: mix in helpful content so people have a reason to follow.
- Fake reviews or bought followers: they break platform rules and customers can often tell. Build slowly with real customers.
- Stale information after a move or festival closure: update hours and address the same day. On Google, use Special hours for short closures.
- One admin, no backup: add a second trusted admin to every account.

How much does it cost to start?
Google says adding a Business Profile is free, and the Facebook Help Center steps for creating a Page do not include any payment. A website involves domain and hosting costs from your chosen provider. Paid ads are optional.
Can an online-only shop use Google Business Profile?
No. Google’s policy lists online-only businesses as ineligible. Focus on social media, WhatsApp and a website instead.
How do I look professional online?
Use one consistent name, logo and contact details everywhere, post helpful content, reply promptly, and keep hours and prices current.
How long before I see results on Google?
Google’s SEO starter guide says changes can take from a few hours to several months to show, and suggests waiting a few weeks before judging results.
Conclusion
A professional online presence in Nepal is built from a few well-maintained pieces: a verified Google Business Profile, a consistent Facebook Page, WhatsApp Business for quick replies, and a website when you are ready. Use the same name everywhere, earn honest reviews, secure every account, and spend a little time each week keeping it current. That steady care is what makes people trust you before they ever walk in.
